The countryside
Andalucia really has a special magic all of it's own. The region has a wonderfully warm Mediterranean climate that is rich in bird life. Visitors from northern Europe are often amazed to discover such abundant wildlife here. The different farming methods of the north and changes in agriculture sadly leave the countryside with a virtual absence of birds and animals. The change is slower in Andalusia and you can still find a rich diversity of birds in every corner of this beautiful land. You'll see huge areas of arable land and olive groves, full of brightly coloured flowers, rich in insect and other invertebrate life.
Towns and Villages
Visit any southern Spanish town or village and you'll see that White Storks are encouraged to build their large twiggy nests. Inside these huge masses of twigs you'll often see House Sparrows and sometimes even Spanish Sparrows residing within.
Unlike other parts of Europe, gardening for pleasure is uncommon, although at certain times of the year colourful displays of geranium, wonderfully scented jasmine and blossom from fruit trees are abundant. During these periods Red-necked Nightjars and Scops Owl take up residence in the outlying areas to feed on the insect life attracted by the plants and tree blosom.
